The Super Eagles handler stated his preference for his skipper to remain in a top level league but insists a move far Asia will not hinder his Super Eagles chances
Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr has said that although he prefers Chelsea ’s John Obi Mikel to continue plying his trade in Europe, a reverse move to the lucrative Chinese Super League will also be ‘respected’.
The 29-year-old has been on the periphery of Antonio Conte’s Blues and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, European teams such as Valencia, Inter and Marseille are battling for his signature.
Also, there are, reportedly, interests from big money spending China sides and the German tactician, who started the Olympic Bronze medallist in all his three matches despite his situation at Chelsea, stated that if he decides to move to Asia, and he becomes active, he will remain in his plans.
“I prefer Mikel stays in Europe and play in an European team,” Rohr told media.
“When I was in London two weeks ago, we spoke about that. But Mikel is an experienced and intelligent player and he knows what to do.
“If he decides to choose the money of China, then we must respect that.
“If he goes to China and is playing well, he will come (to the Super Eagles).”
